MISTY COAST

When I Fall From The Sky (Fysik Format)

misty coast

A Norwegian psych-pop duo comprising Linn Frokedal and Richard Myklebust, their third album, which adds drummer Kim Age Furuhaug to the mix, opens with a definite nod to George Harrison on Switch Off and proceeds through all manner of sweet-voiced dream pop intoxicating shimmers and chimes, venturing slightly into noisier climes with In A Million Years, Fun and 92 but never losing sight of fuzzy, nagging melodies and tumbling hooks.

Exploring communal anxiety with themes of insomnia and loneliness (hence numbers such as Sugar Pill, Ghost Town and, Mykleburst on lead, Jet Lag, the title inspired by the sensation of falling when you’re asleep and everything drenched in echo and reverb, it’s something of a niche genre these days, but they’re undoubtedly on its top shelf.
